putting the boat away

Well, it’s a sad day indeed. The day I start putting the boat away for the winter season. This is always a difficult time of year because it’s deer hunting season (which can consume a guy) and duck hunting season and there’s much to do preparing ice shacks for next month, etc. But at some point, the boat has to be cleaned out and put away right. Today I started the process. It was ugly to be honest. I can’t get over the amount of crap accumulated in that boat! I was amazed at how many bags of plastic worms and spinnerbait trailers were kicking around in there! Suffice to say, I’m “almost” already geared up for next season. One thing that I will be updating are the rods/reels though. This years equipment took quite a beating! That’s a good thing, although I stuttered and stammered while trying to explain it to my wife. Boys will be boys though and I am upgrading all the equipment next season.
Thoughts about 2010. I don’t know why, but whenever I close up for the year my brain always seems to spend some time focusing on the things I wanted to accomplish this year and didn’t. Heaven forbid the brain remembers all the big fish caught or the amazing days out there. Instead all I can think about is how little striped bass fishing that happened and the complete disregard for all the crappie swimming around in the area. Next year I’m definitely going to spend more time chasing those tastey devils! The highlights of the year were, oddly enough, not the fish caught or lost rather all the great people I got to spend time with during the warm season. To be honest, that’s what fuels me. Such fun spending time with great people during their vacations. I thank you all – there’s no doubt that I live a truly blessed life.
