Heat wave fishing

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Been fishing almost every day for the last 21 days (tired but quite happy too!). We are in the middle of a heat wave right now, but the fishing has really been excellent! the last 2 days have been in the high 90’s with bright blue skies, yet the smallmouth fishing was off the charts. Especially in the morning.  Click on the right photo of  Eric from Philly.  That is one BIG smallie!!!  As a bonus, the northern pike are really starting to move shallow too. The last five trips we’ve managed a quite a few over 10 pounds and one over 15. Not bad for this time of year. Rumor has it that Labor day is bringing a storm and a cold front. That should be interesting.

Friends

Sometimes I think I’m the luckiest guy on Earth.  Got to spend a few hours with one of my favorite humans and his son in law (who is a heck of a fishermen too).  Even if they didn’t catch fish one, the stories and the jokes were priceless.  Fortunately some smallies cooperated too.   Dick caught a couple nice ones including this one that I took a picture of.  We fished Great Pond and fished wacky worms most of the day.  He also had a pike hit.  Fought it for a while but it bit him off in the end.  Still exciting though!

What a fun week

It’s been a really fun week here in the Belgrade’s although the weather has been a stinker.  The fishing has been pretty good though considering the conditions.  We are still catching a lot of smaller pike and some really nice largemouth and smallmouth.  The dusk fishing for big largemouth has been terrific – from around 6 p.m. till bug:30.

Bass Fishing

For the last 10 days  I’ve been fishing the Belgrade Lakes Region pretty hard for smallmouth and largemouth bass.  For the most part, I’ve been fishing Salmon Lake out of Whisperwood Lodge, Great Pond and Messalonskee Lake (Snow Pond).  I must say, this has been an amazing season for bass fishing.  Every trip out we are catching some really big bass and in good numbers too.  On Wednesday of this week, I did a northern pike trip and we even whacked a bunch of those – 28 to be exact.  They were not all big ones, but the numbers were impressive.  I hope the fishing continues this was all summer!

I’m taking a break from the lakes today and am headed to the coast for a little striped bass fishing with my daughters and wife.  Should be fun – I hear the blue fish are already here too!!!!  I’ll post pics if I take any . . .

Gotta get up early with this heat, but it can pay off.

Had a blast today fishing with David (shown) and his 2 young boys Matt and Chris.  The kids kept busy with white perch while David hammered some really nice bass!  Bite was good from about 6 – 8 a.m and the the heat got the best of the kids (and me!).  Still caught some, but not like the early morning.
