Big pike time

This is such a great time to fish for trophy pike with one uncontrollable exception — the weather!  Last week the wind was just-a-blowin’ nonstop for 4 days.  The Kobani’s were visiting and staying at the camp on Snow Pond and we fished hard.  But the wind just wouldn’t stop and it made fishing conditions unbearable.  The good news is, we found a lot of fish breaking water and chasing bait, so that made the fishing exciting.  Al Kobani had a giant pike rip off his buzz bait and we ended up catch about 8 pike and a couple small bass.  Too bad it was so windy cause I think he could have caught many more fish!  That Friday I took Bob Sagat and his buddy Milt up in the stream because the wind made the lake unfishable.  Well, Milt hooked into a beauty which I’ve posted below.    So there’s a lot of big pike in the shallows right now.  There’s at least 2 more good weeks of fishing ahead too.  Check out the speicals board  . . . 🙂

fall is here!

Ok, so I just went on line at DIF&W and purchased all my fall licenses.

Already have my fall turkey license and that starts Columbus Day weekend – can’t wait to bow hunt for turkeys!

Then I bought my archery licenses – best season of the year!

Then I bought my limited archery licenses (got a doe and buck tag) because we have some good hunting here and I’m headed down south next week to bow hunt.

Then I bought my duck stamps (state and federal) and brought the duck boat down to camp – ready to shoot some quackers starting on Wednesday.

Thankfull I already have my fishing license cause in between hunting, I’ll be in my BOAT catching some fish this October.  This has to be the best month of the year!

Long Pond

Had so much fun this morning on Long Pond. Fished with two awesome guys, had lots of laughs and enjoyed some beautiful scenery. The foliage is really beautiful right now, especially in the wetland areas. It was one of those days when you are just thankful to be on the water. Only one small problem, the fish were pretty difficult to catch. We caught fish, but really it was just enough to keep the day going strong. But the fish that were caught were pretty good sized. The highlight of the day was this huge largemouth! What a piggie!

Weird Ducks, Sand Hill Cranes and Turkeys

I went to the Belgrade Stream camp today to check trail cameras and see if I could catch some bait for tomorrow’s fishing trip. These birds were sitting on the bridge.  I believe they are someone’s pet ducks.  Ugly things!  We also saw some sand hill cranes which are not a normal sight in this part of the country.   Gabby couldn’t stand it anymore and ran over the bridge and chased them into the water. Then she jumped in and swam after them until they flew away. After that, we walked up the road to the camp and there were about 15 turkeys in the yard. The dog almost had a heart attack. She hates turkeys you know! They took flight and she ran around in circles for a few minutes. I laughed until my sides hurt!

Fall Fishing Going Strong

Well, today is the first offical day of Fall, but we’ve been enjoying fall fishing for a while now.  The water temps are cooling down a bit and so is the evening air!  Had to turn the heaters on at camp and yesterday I found myself looking at an ice shack that needs some lovin’.  But first things first, fall pike fishing has arrived and now that this full moon phase is coming to and end, I anticipate some seriously good trophy pike fishing in the very near future.  It’s my favorite time of year to fish for them!   As a bonus, the smallmouth and largemouth fishing can be fun too.  Specifically for bigger fish.  What a great time of year!
