Had so much fun this morning on Long Pond. Fished with two awesome guys, had lots of laughs and enjoyed some beautiful scenery. The foliage is really beautiful right now, especially in the wetland areas. It was one of those days when you are just thankful to be on the water. Only one small problem, the fish were pretty difficult to catch. We caught fish, but really it was just enough to keep the day going strong. But the fish that were caught were pretty good sized. The highlight of the day was this huge largemouth! What a piggie!
Weird Ducks, Sand Hill Cranes and Turkeys
I went to the Belgrade Stream camp today to check trail cameras and see if I could catch some bait for tomorrow’s fishing trip. These birds were sitting on the bridge. I believe they are someone’s pet ducks. Ugly things! We also saw some sand hill cranes which are not a normal sight in this part of the country. Gabby couldn’t stand it anymore and ran over the bridge and chased them into the water. Then she jumped in and swam after them until they flew away. After that, we walked up the road to the camp and there were about 15 turkeys in the yard. The dog almost had a heart attack. She hates turkeys you know! They took flight and she ran around in circles for a few minutes. I laughed until my sides hurt!
Fall Fishing Going Strong
Well, today is the first offical day of Fall, but we’ve been enjoying fall fishing for a while now. The water temps are cooling down a bit and so is the evening air! Had to turn the heaters on at camp and yesterday I found myself looking at an ice shack that needs some lovin’. But first things first, fall pike fishing has arrived and now that this full moon phase is coming to and end, I anticipate some seriously good trophy pike fishing in the very near future. It’s my favorite time of year to fish for them! As a bonus, the smallmouth and largemouth fishing can be fun too. Specifically for bigger fish. What a great time of year!
northern pike
Well, the northern pike are starting to move in shallow again. Right now the fishing is pretty good but I think it’s only going to get better in the next few weeks. Art and Andy caught some nice ones the last two days and Andy landed this big old pike and had another one that came ungluded at the side of the boat. The second one was even bigger than the one pictured here. It’s all good though and there were more than enough fish caught to make the trip a success. Today’s bite was slower than yesterdays when we were fishing in driving rain and wind. Today was beautiful and the fishing was average. Art caught a nice bass this moring that we took a picture of too. GOOD TIMES!
Sun is setting on summer
The best season of them all is finally here! FALL is by far my favorite season in Maine. Of course the fishing is excellet (I love fall pike fishing when the big females move in shallow and I love catching those beautiful brook trout too). Deer season is right around the corner and I”ve bee busy putting out trail cameras and deer stands in preperation. We also love hiking the Kennebec Highlands during the peak of fall foliage too. Lastly, starting pretty soon the wild mushrooms will be popping up – yummy!
Lately the fishing has been really weird. One day is amazing and the next you have to work for them. Labor Day Weekend is a perfect example. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the fishing was really good. I did trips on Great Pond, Messalonskee Lake and Belgrade Stream. Wind was an issue, but we had a blast. Then on Monday it stunk. Couldn’t get many fish to bite at all. Talk about weird and frustrating! I guess that’s why you have to enjoy the g
